Miguel and Carmen first appear in the 1891 census with French (Fransisco) only 5 months old, we seem to have another spelling of our surname, we were Baldaquino's in 1891 and are recorced as living in Crutchett's Ramp. Thanks to Rosanna for the heads up.
Here we have the first detailed records of Miguel and Carmela's family. By 1901, the first 4 children have been born, French (10), Josefa (6), Carlos (3) and Angel (1.5). The children are obviously still in School, Carmela is a stay-at-home mum and Miguel seems to have changed profession from a Shipwright to a Coalheaver.
As the address is the same as in 1891, 35 Road to the Lines, it makes me think maybe my theory is correct and after a few years in Gibraltar they were confident enough to go back to their birth names. MORE
Miguel only recorded his own details and nothing about the rest of the family, it does appear though the family has moved from RTTL to 14 Castle Ramp. I recently took this 360 PHOTO of 2 Castle Ramp, an address I have for Rosario before they move to Witham's.
13 years after the previous census, Miguel still works as a coal heaver, this must have been backbreaking work for such a long time - I did find a note in Salvador's papers that suggested he was a Stevadore at one point, not sure if these roles are connected, probably humping coal at the docks! MORE
By 1921, Miguel is recorded as 61 years of age, the first three children have moved out and we have some new additions, Miguel (19), Manuel (17) and Rosario (14). The family are still residing at 14 Castle Ramp, Miguel is no longer working. Angel (21) is a Bumboatman, Miguel is a clerk at the French Bank, Manuel is a Postman and Rosario, the youngest is still in school. MORE
If anyone knows which bank was the "French Bank" was, i'd love to hear from you, maybe having a job in banking inspired Miguel to make his move to the USA.
Unfortunately we are going to have to wait for the next installment as the 1931 Census information wont be released until 2031.
